Uninsured Motorist Coverage
Definition
- A clause available in some auto insurance policies that provides coverage for an individual in the event of traffic collision where the other driver is at fault but does not have automotive insurance. Uninsured motorist coverage (UM) is optional in some areas and mandatory in others, and can also provide coverage in the event of a hit and run or if the other driver's insurer refuses to pay the claim.
